Tentative Treatment Plan

Hospital: Gangnam Severance Hospital, Seoul, South Korea
Type of cancer: HER2+, with grade 3 tumor and metastatic tumors in two lymph nodes.

1) 6 cycles of TCHP chemotherapy every 20 days

2) Surgery to remove the cancerous tumor and affected lymph nodes

3) 12 cycles of chemotherapy

4) Radiation

Estimated Costs

The nature of Connie’s cancer means that some experimental drugs have to be used, which are not covered by Korean health insurance

1) 6 cycles of TCHP chemotherapy: Docetaxel, Carboplatin, Herceptin, and Perjeta
6 cycles = 12 million KRW ≈ S$13,920

2) Cost of surgery is unknown at this time

3) 12 additional cycles of chemotherapy which includes the experimental drug, Kadcyla
12 cycles = 60 million KRW ≈ S$70,000 for the drugs alone

4) Radiation cost is unknown at this time

In total, estimated costs are: 100 million KRW ≈ SGD$ 114,000.

Current Situation

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Connie lost her teaching job in March 2020 and, because of her cancer treatment, She is also unable to carry on working at this time.

Due to the travel constraints of COVID-19, they moved forward with treatment in Korea. Korean hospital practices are a little different than in the West: you need to have a helper with you for your hospital stay. Connie’s husband has had to take on this role as they cannot afford to pay someone. This has resulted in no income for her family ever since the treatment began.

100% of any donation given through this site will go to Connie. Please beware that if paying by Visa or Paypal, they will take a fee from the donation.
